Academics

 

Our whole mornings are dedicated to becoming better readers and writers. We use workstations and Book Clubs to help us learn various reading strategies. We also take part in a Writer's Workshop where we can exercise our ideas for writing. These are some of the things that we learn through the year to help us beocme better readers and writers.

In third grade, we are starting to learn how to use math in our everyday lives. Here are some of the ideas we study.

Numbers up to 1,000,000 and Rounding
Using addition and subtraction to solve problems
Using measurement and fractions
Creating and interpreting pie graphs
Practicing our multiplication and division facts

Science time is full of experiments and working with classmates. Our class has 8 research teams that perform experiments and investigations. These are some of the topics that we investigate throughout the year.

Indiana Science Standards - 3rd Grade

 

In Social Studies, we are learning about our local community and how a community works together. We learn about the history of Winfield and how our area came to be. We also learn how to read and use maps to help us learn about the world outside of our local community. One of our big projects of the year is our mini-economy that helps us learn about economics inthe real world.
