Literacy Tour

We start our day off with a team meeting to welcome everyone back and share any important news for the day. We also stay for a short read from Mrs. T and our reading mini-lesson. We also may put a new title up on our book themes.

Now that we have a new reading strategy, we need to give it some practice. Mrs. T meets with Book Club while the rest of us are reading silently in our Book Nooks or reading with a reading buddy. To help us monitor our reading, we use Sticky Thinking in our Reader's Notebooks to record our connections and questions.

Book Clubs are fun because we get to read cool books and discuss them with our teammates. We also get to keep track of what books we read on our Book Club cabinet.

We also get to do literacy workstations that help us practice some more reading. We get to use the computers, play games, do reader's theater, listen to books, and read poetry.

Since we do a lot of reading, we come across many good books that we would like others to read. We can recommend good books to our teammates by leaving a note in their pocket or make a recommendation to another class.

We LOVE mystery readers because we never know who is going to visit our room. Mystery readers can be family, school, or community members.

Our team is so fortunate to have gigantic library full of different types of books. Each basket is labeled with the type of books. We can also "team up" with a genre to find more books that will interest us.

After our Book Clubs, it is time for our Writer's Workshop. We have another team meeting where we discuss writing ideas and strategies. Then we get LOTS of time to practice good writing and meet with Mrs. T. We also have many resources at the Writing Center that help us through the writing process.

We get to use our Writer's Notebooks that hold all of our great ideas and tips for writing. After writing time, we have another team meeting to share our "works in progress".

To help us practice good reading habits at home, our hard-working parents are helping Mrs. T put together Discovery Packs. We can check out a bag full of books and activities about many different topics.
